BeeSnare Terms of Service
1. Acceptance
By downloading, installing, or using BeeSnare, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use BeeSnare. These Terms incorporate our Privacy Policy and, where applicable, our End User License Agreement.
2. What BeeSnare is, and what it is not
What it is. BeeSnare is a local decoy and tripwire tool for your own Windows device. It generates decoy credential files ("snares") and watches whether those decoy files are accessed. When a decoy is accessed, BeeSnare records the event in a local attack log and can alert you, including on a paired phone. The decoys, including any decoy email address and decoy password paired with a snare, are generated by BeeSnare by default, and you may optionally customize them: you can edit the local part of the decoy email (the part before the @; the @beesnare.app domain is fixed) and, in manual mode, generate or set your own decoy password. These are decoy values, not your real credentials. You do not provide your real account credentials, and BeeSnare does not ask for, see, or transmit them.
What it is not. This is important:
- BeeSnare is not antivirus, anti-malware, a firewall, or a prevention tool.
- BeeSnare does not block, stop, remove, quarantine, or undo any attack, intrusion, or unauthorized access.
- BeeSnare does not monitor, secure, or recover your real accounts, passwords, devices, network, or services. It watches only the decoy files it places on your device.
- A BeeSnare alert is an early warning that a decoy was touched. It is then your responsibility to take action on your real accounts.
BeeSnare cannot guarantee that an attacker will interact with a decoy, that any given threat will be detected, or that you will avoid harm. It is one signal among the security measures you should maintain.
3. License to use BeeSnare
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use BeeSnare on devices you own or are authorized to control, subject to these Terms and any applicable EULA. You may not reverse engineer, resell, redistribute, or sublicense the software except as permitted by law.
4. Acceptable use
You agree to use BeeSnare only on devices you own or have authority over, and only for lawful purposes. You may not use BeeSnare to deceive, surveil, or harm other people, or to plant decoys on systems you do not control.
5. Your vault and your password
BeeSnare stores its data in an encrypted vault on your device. You choose at setup how to secure it:
- No password (automatic unlock): the vault unlocks using your Windows user account. If you lose access to that Windows account (for example, an operating-system reinstall without a backup), the vault cannot be recovered. We cannot recover it for you, because the key exists only on your device.
- Master password: you set a password that adds a prompt when BeeSnare opens. If you forget it, you can reset it locally from the lock screen without losing your vault data. This reset happens entirely on your device. There is no email reset, no recovery phrase, and no server involved.
You are responsible for safeguarding your device, your Windows account, and any master password you set.
6. Subscriptions, billing, and refunds
BeeSnare offers Scout (free) and the paid tiers Guard and Queen. Paid subscriptions are sold and processed by Polar, our payment provider and merchant of record. By subscribing, you also agree to Polar's applicable buyer terms.
- Billing and renewal: paid subscriptions bill and renew automatically on the cycle shown at purchase until you cancel.
- Cancellation: cancel at any time through Polar's self-serve flow or by contacting support@polar.sh.
- Refunds: paid subscriptions include a 30-day refund, requested and processed through Polar.
- Payment support: for billing, payment, cancellation, or refund questions contact Polar at support@polar.sh. BeeSnare support at support@beesnare.com covers the app itself.
- License validation: BeeSnare checks your license key at startup. If the check fails, BeeSnare continues on the free Scout tier; your vault stays accessible.
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SOFTWARE AND SERVICE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, BEESNARE DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY, OR OTHERWISE, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
BEESNARE DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE; THAT IT WILL DETECT ANY PARTICULAR THREAT, INTRUSION, OR UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS; THAT DECOYS WILL BE ACCESSED BY AN ATTACKER; THAT ALERTS WILL BE TIMELY OR DELIVERED; OR THAT USE OF THE SOFTWARE WILL PREVENT OR REMEDY ANY HARM, LOSS, OR COMPROMISE.
SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF CERTAIN WARRANTIES, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE EXCLUSIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
8. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL BEESNARE BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, ACCOUNTS, FUNDS, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SOFTWARE OR THESE TERMS, WHETHER BASED ON CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STRICT LIABILITY, OR ANY OTHER THEORY.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, BEESNARE'S TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE TOTAL AMOUNTS YOU PAID TO BEESNARE IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) FIFTY U.S. DOLLARS ($50).
SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE LIMITATIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless BeeSnare from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of or related to: (a) your use or misuse of the Software; (b) your violation of these Terms or of any law; or (c) your installation or use of the Software on any device or system you do not own or are not authorized to control.
10. Termination
You may stop using BeeSnare at any time and delete it. We may suspend or terminate the license if you breach these Terms. On termination, the license ends; your on-device vault remains yours and under your control until you delete or wipe it.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will post the updated version with a new effective date and provide reasonable notice of material changes. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept them.
12. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
13. Severability and Survival
If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect. The disclaimers and limitations of liability survive any termination of these Terms.
